Lodging: Eclipse - O - Mania!

Viewing the total solar eclipse is clearly in the plans for many Americans (and foreigners too!) next summer. We were able to see just how popular this event is shaping up to be when we tried to find reasonably priced lodging for the rove and eclipse that was located anywhere near the path of totality in Nebraska. To a great extent, the cost of lodging influenced our roving path plans as well as our decision drive out of Ogallala to Tryon, Nebraska Monday morning for the eclipse. Fortunately, after a lot of calling around (in early September 2016!), we were able to find some reasonably priced lodging in Norfolk, Ainsworth, Beatrice, Holdrege, and Ogallala; thus, these are the waypoints we chose for the rove routes for the 10 GHz contest. Considering how fast rooms were filling up even at these locations, we decided to book several rooms at each locale now so that those 10 GHz ops who would like to take part in Eclipse-O-Mania would have access to reasonably priced lodging.

Note: we also have three rooms pre-booked in Sidney, NE but they are expensive at about $180 each. It's a little out of the way for the rovers from the east. Might be helpful if some Rocky Mtn types came north.

Don't like to move around too much? We have two rooms booked in Lincoln, NE for Aug 18/19/20. You'd drive out into the countryside during the day and pick one spot to operatre from. Similarly, we have two rooms booked in Bethany, MO for Aug 18/19/20th. Great vistas in that area.
